Evaluation Question 4.

4) How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

In the planning stages of my advanced production I used technologies like Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest and Prezi. I used youtube to look up and see other people music videos, by doing this   I could see the techniques used, and it gave me inspiration to experiment with my video, without this I don't think it would have been so important to me to use as many locations as I need, by looking at all the other music video I saw that they set it in many different places even if they kept coming back to one place that is why I used so many locations. I used Facebook and twitter to show my friends and other people what is going on with the filming at edition of my music video and how I did curtain things with my music video these were also great for feed back and getting to see what the audience wanted from my music video and how I could change it for the better. I used Pintrest to also get ideas, all you do is type in a word and lodes of pictures come up, I used this to see what I could add and put into my music video. I also used this to make my mood board that is in a earlier blog. I used Prezi as a presenter, to show different ideas clearly and neatly, this worked well to show things like what codes and conventions are and the three different types of music videos.
In the construction stages of my music video I used tow different sources, I used Youtube when I didn't know how to do something, it showed me how to use the sources I was usig effectively and too its full protectional. I used iMovies for all the editing in my music video, by using this I could add in any special effect that I wanted of my music video. This worked really well as its simple to use and I used the unupdated one last year. I also use iPhoto of the edition of pictures in my products and photo shop elements 11 to put the writing on my digi pack.
In the research I used only Youtube and pintrest to get ideas, I had a solid idea of what I wanted for my music video therefore I just needed some more ideas and to know how to carry out those ideas myself.
Overall media technologies where a huge part in all the stages of my media production they helped me from planning to filming and editing.

Evaluation Question 3.

3) What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Though out the making of my music video I have been showing it to people to see what there response is, as I wanted people to like it.
I made a Facebook page and kept people updated with ideas and clips of the music video so that I could get it just right and see there views on my ideas.
After all my filming and editing was done I sent it too people to watch and give there comments. I also showed it to many different people around where I live e.g. nabours, people I work with, friends and family. Over all the feed back I got back was positive.
The locations, one of the main positives was the range of locations that I had used, they liked how nearly every part of the video was in a different place showing different things from the last part without being jumpy because of the transitions that I had put in. They liked how there was a horse galloping along a beach because this is not often seen in music videos and added difference to the video. The range of locations mean that people didn't get bored when watching the video as the never knew what was next to come or where the next clip would be taken place.
Another positive that I got from audience feedback was the use of miss-en-scene. The fact that throughout he video my actress looked like she should in that curtain place or area. The costume changes fitted in with the background and so did her make up and hair- although I wanted her hair to stay the same throughout as it gave the different effect. They liked the experimenting with different clothing and how it changed the view and perception of the whole video.
Another positive was my actress, everybody thought that she fitted the part perfectly. Although I can not take credit for her acting as that was all down to her and although she looked perfect for the part she also acted it perfectly and I couldn't have asked for a better actress for the part.
I also got negative feedback, this was about he lip syncing, although I tried very hard to have the whole video is sync it was very difficult for me to get the whole video in sync. This got pulled up a lot by the viewers saying that the parts that where in sync where a lot better then those parts that where not.

Over all I have learnt a lot from my aduice feed back, I have learn that he casting of the role is very important and to have many different locations is also very important as it keep the audiences mind busy and doesn't let them get board. I also learnt how important lip-syncing is.

Evaluation Question 2.

2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?

My music video, My digi pack and my poster all are working together to get my audience to know my artist. The artist of all is called Beanie, in order to be able to make it all link in I need some common factors.
Throughout my music video I have used the beach, I used the beach to film the horse galloping, to have many different parts of the video sung there- therefore I though  it was only fitting to have my digi pack mostly at the beach. Although they are taken at different parts of the beach on different days and she is wearing different things the common factor is the beach.
I also used the same writing through out my digi pack and my poster, they all have the same writing and the size is depend on how it fitted with the product. I used "Luciia CE" in capitals for the titles and used it not in capitals for the smaller text, when looking at other artist digi pack and poster the writing is one of the main things that doest change throughout so I felt this was a very import factor in my digi pack and poster.
To make the digi pack, poster and video consistent I used the editing on my mac. I used the iPhoto for the digi pack and poster to edit the work although I used photo shop elements 11 to put on the writing. And I used the iMovie to edit my video so that it was in the same format and fitted together well.
I was my main aim that my main product and ancillary text where very closely linked, and I believe this has been achieved. The area that are filmed have been used in my digi pack and poster, with my actress wearing and looking the same so that it is very closely linked and recognisable throughout.

Evaluation Question 1.

1) In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

For my video I wanted it to be like popular pop videos today. I wanted my video to have some different ideas but have the same standard and diversity that all the other music video have today. Music videos today are pushing the boundaries, not in the ways that they used to but instead by making the audience use there imagination and get lost in the music video- I believe that they want people to not only get lost in the song but also in the music video.  To see how to get this effect I had to look into other music videos, I looked into the videos from Lorde as although this was my so her music and music videos are very dream like (this is how I knew it was right for the song) and I wanted to see what ideas she had got. In her video "Tennis Court" it is very simple yet very effective, It is simply her sitting in a dark room with bright lights flashing to the music. Although this is not dream like it is very effective and doest show the audience that the song is about so you have to listen and find out your self. Another video that is unlike my song but uses the dream and Katy Perry's "Last Friday Night" although this is a lot different from anything I would do with my song, the idea that she wakes up in the messy room looking the way she does and then having the flash backs to the night before when it was all "perfect" was somewhat the idea I was going for in my music video. I wanted it to seem that she did live in a horrible place didn't have much money but it didn't matter because she was okay with it and could dream. I wanted to keep in the norm for music videos and be aware of the fact this is a pop video but I also wanted to make my video stand out and be like the videos these days that make you think about what your watching. I believe my music video does this. My plan all the time with this music video was to have in in a dream, make the audience understand and see what she is going through but also see it in there own light, in the way that they want to see it and understand it. The main reason why I used this convention is because in the modern day every body has a "dream" and I wanted to use that for my video to appeal to the viewers.
My video also I believe developed normal forms and conventions, the reason for this is my use of locations. I travelled a lot through out the making for this music video into natural places- this I don't believe is done that much in midden music video making. They use a studio and have everything there however I believe that going to the place and working with the weather and different timings changes the whole feel of the video unlike when you do it in a studio.
I believe my music video also challenges modern forms and conventions of real media products because it seems more real. Its not likely that even for a music video Rhianna or Queen B are going to be seen in a dark ally or under a cold bridge singing how there not proud of there address. This is how I wanted my music video to differ. I wanted it to be real (in the real parts) and dreamy in the dram parts, and I knew the only was I was going to be able to do this was by pushing the boundaries and not letting anything give away that it was warm and she had a home. For the first part I used a old bridge we where underneath it and it had old blankets and writing all over the walls which gave a great feel, I went there early in the morning on a sunny day so that I would get  the cold morning light- which I did. I also go my actress to dress in many old and baggy clothes, these meant that she looked cold and like she didn't have the money to pay for clothes for fashion or size just warmth. I go her to put a light layer of light make up on and nothing on her lips so they looked dry and like she hadn't eaten. Her hair was messy like she didn't have the funds to brush it and this all added to the effect. It gave the video a scarily realistic view of what people have to go through living in today's world, where like in my video some people have it all (in her dream) the dresses the houses the animals but also some people don't have anything. But this is not to say that they are not as happy. This is how my music video challenged normal forms and conventions as it not only showed the good side of life but also the bad side.

Story Board.

Story Board
In this blog I am going to show my story board, I did this on paper, took a picture and the unloaded it to my blog. I could have used a digital story board but if I did this I couldn't draw in it.

This is my story board:

My Digi Pack Poster.

My Digi Pack Poster
In this blog I am going to show my divi pack poster, I used the same photoshop on my poster as I did for the rest of my divi pack.
For my poster I cropped it down so that she was standing in the middle of the image, I added her name the name of the song- when it was out and some quotes from listeners of the song for promoting her and her music. At the bottom of the poster I added in the record labels names that hold the song.

This is my poster:

My Digi Pack.

My Digi Pack
In this blog I am going to show my digi pack.
To edit my digi pack I used photoshop elements 11, I also used MacBook iPhoto editor. I used the iPhoto to edit the photos themselves and then used the Photoshop to add on the writing and branding.

This is the back page of my digi pack, I have my added on the 10 songs that are included in my album. I put on the bar code to show that it can be bought. I put the terms and conditions and who made the album and where it was made in the small font at the bottom. I also put on two record labels, my own and Song music that is known and used throughout the music industry.

This is the font cover, I used simple writing for this as I wanted it to stand out but also be in keeping with the song. She is not standing in the middle of the cover but I feel that it adds to the effect being able to see so much of the sea. By doing this it all fits in very well to one another and that was the aim of the digi pack and video.

This is the lyrics page, I put all the lyrics on the lighter part of the image so that it was able to be red. This is a calm image compared to the other image used in the digi pack although its still in keeping with the rest of the digi pack.

This is my CD for my divi pack, its simple and doesn't show the sea so is different but its also very simple and fits well for the video and branding I have given my actress and singer Beanie.

This is the insert page image, I edited this on iPhoto this photo is very simple but effective the wind has blown her hair almost perfectly and the picture grabs the moment. The way that she is looking down gives a free and dream like feel which is the same as in the video.

Editing.

Editing
In this blog I am going to show the editing that I did for my music video and how it effected my video and the steps that I took.

To edit my music video I used iMovie, this was the same as I used last year although it was updated this year so it was different, to get used to the new soft wear I experimented with a different video.

This is the stages of editing that I did:

After uploading the footage onto iMovie I had to upload the song that I wanted to use, the song royals was already in my music library therefore I just imported the track on to the video, the green lines that are on the bottom of the screen-shot are the track, by having the track here it makes is easier to see where I need to put the footage for the lip-syncing.

All the footage that I took I put in the "keeping" section of the iMovie, by doing this I can see all the footage and see what would look best in different parts of the song, it also allows me to change the parts of the song I already have put into the video. Having the time of the song also allows me to see how long I have left of footage, and a back up copy if anything goes wrong.

For this part of the editing I used the adjusting tool to put one part of film layered over the top of the other part of filming. I then slowed the horse galloping down and faded the bottom layer so you could see the horse galloping clearly but also see the actress singing clearly.

For this part I used the strong beat and worked with it to add in black edits and also different parts of filming.

At the end of my video I didn't know what to do, so to add to the effect and have a smooth ending I had my actress run into the sea, then the horse and a fade out to black transition. This worked very well, fitted into the attitude of the song and video.

These are the different transitions, I used the Cross fade, fade to black, fade to white and cross blur. By using these to move into the other clips it made my video run a lot smoother. I found that if the colours where very different on each clip then it would look jumpy and unprofessional so I put the transitions in to make the video run well and have an edge.

This is the adjustment tool, by using this I can take the sound off the original clip and make sure the song doesn't effect the video. I can also take the colour away from the clip, to make it black and white I can also dim and make the clip brighter. After layering the clip over one another I can also fade one of the clips and make the other clip stronger. It allows me to put different effects on the video to make it dream like or many other effects. The only effects that I used where the dream effect and a grainy old-fashioned wash over the whole video to set the scene.

Focus Group.

Focus Group

In this blog I am showing my focus group, that we (as a class) filmed, I edited this by myself with a new soft wear that I haven't used before, its called "Serif MoviePlus".
My class mate Jenny filmed the focus group and myself and Vincent (another class mate) asked the questions to the focus group. We used PowerPoint to show the questions to the focus group. The group that we used where young adults aged between 17-18 this is the perfect age for our focus group as this is the age of our target audience. We used both male and female students in our focus group to have a different range of option. We also used students that had very different interests and taste in music to have a verity of answers.

Using these results and hearing what the focus group think should be include in music videos and there favourite aspects of music videos I can adapted and make my music video better and appeal to a wider audience.

These are some pictures of the set up of our focus group:

This is a link to the focus group, although I edited my own version I couldn't upload this because of my laptop. Therefore this is the link for the focus group:

Filming.

Filming
In this blog I am going to talk about the days I spent filming.

Day 1:

On the first day it was a Thursday. This was the day that I filmed the horse galloping across the beach. I had to film on a Thursday as this was the only day I could get my friend (who is a protection rider) to ride my horse across the beach. I checked the tides and saw the time that I had to be there was between 7-10am wile the tide was out. I knew that it would take me 2 hours to get to the beach so had to leave the horses yard at 5am in order to get the beach for 7 and have a good couple of hours. I also needed to make sure my dad could drive the horse box to the beach.
I used my Nikon camera and tripod to film this and had him ride the horse through the water and sand many different times so to make sure I had the right shot.
It was the perfect day for filming as the sun was low and the light was very effective.

This is a photo from on top of the horse on filming day!

Day 2:

On the second day I was at the beach again, this time with my actress Bebe. I firstly went to Brighton Beech here I filmed her singing in the sea which on the day was very wild on the day, the weather was a lot different from the first day filming but added into the video well. She was wearing a long black dress that has a Old fashioned royal feel about it so fits well with the character and video. As the beach has a huge blank I used this opportunity to take some pictures for my digi pack.

I also went back to camber sands with my actress on the second day, I had her change into a light dress that is a slight spin off wedding dress. As the beach was sandy it worked well with the colours. The weather was again grey and windy which set the sense very well and gave her something to work with.

This is a picture of my actress down at the beach after filming!

Day 3:

Day 3 I spent at knolepark. I filmed only a few things here, I used this location for the trees and feel that even though I didn't use many shots from here that they worked really well and effective.

Picture From Knole Park:

Day 4:

Day 4 was the bulk day for filming, I did all my close together places in this day. I started filming at 8am and ended filming at 7pm, by the end of the day both my actress and myself where very tired although I don't think this shows at all in the overall product though. The lighting changed through out and I managed to plan what I wanted in the light and what I wanted when it was dark so to use artificial and candle light. I did the road in the morning so that the early morning light was around. I then moved to the house to film areas near the window that didn't what strong sunlight. I then moved to the field so that the sun was lower in the sky to give a more dramatic effect overall. Overall this was the hardest day filming as it was the longest and I had to move to many different locations.

Overall it took 4 days to film- this is not including the planning time. Each day I planned the times I would film and checked the weather for the best lighting and effect for the video. I also had to plan in advanced as I was using my horse, a rider and my actress.

Mood Board.

Mood Board
In this blog I am going to show you my mood board. I used Pintest to do my mood board.

This is my mood board:

These are some screen shots of my mood board.

Digi Pack Inspiration.

Digi Pack Inspiration
In this blog I am going to talk about the inspiration for my digi pack and how other people impacted my digi pack.

Inspiration

This is one of Beyonces first album cover, it shows her and is in keeping with her music video for irreplaceable so it all links in with her brand identity throughout.

As I was using one of Lordes songs I wanted to look at her albums covers. They are all so different but show the same writing and have the same look throughout which is al very important for her brand identity.

Although Taylor Swifts albums don't have a common factor other than her self they both give the same feel, which is what I want to get with me own digi pack.

this is the album cover from Imagne Dragons. It using colours to draw in the consumers. It doesn't show the artist them selfs but draws your eye into the middle.

This is the Quadron album cover, is very simple using a shape to over the face and add in a feather, its very simple but very effective and different.

These are all the albums covers that inspired me, these are all very different but all gave me different ideas for my own ablum. As they are all so different it made me push to make my own divi pack different to stand out more but also fit in the pop music brand and my own brand identity.

Digi Pack Research.

Digi Pack Research
In this blog I am going to show my digi pack research.

To show my research I have used Prezi, This is the link to my prezi:

<iframe src="http://prezi.com/embed/mhzafh4c5psv/?bgcolor=ffffff&amp;lock_to_path=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;autohide_ctrls=0&amp;features=undefined&amp;disabled_features=undefined" width="550" height="400" frameBorder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen mozAllowFullscreen allowfullscreen></iframe>

Main Character Information.

Main Character Information
In this blog I am going to talk about my main character and the branding and name I have given her.

Branding
For my branding I have chosen the show name Beanie. I have chosen this as its different, not been used before and isn't a real name. I wanted my charter to be "dream like" I would her to be represented like this. The reason for this is so that it fits well with the song and the video. Her fashion is similar to that in the video so its truthful throughout.

Main Character
My main character is very different. I wanted her to have the same feel as the artist of the song Lorde. This works well, as the song is about Royals it fits in well that she isn't a average looking person. By looking different and having her own look it mean she is not scared to break out of the normal allowing the video to be as different as Pop videos go. Her body language in the video is also fitting with her branding. She is very free in the video making it seam more dream like.

My main and only character is the same throughout the video and my digi pack. She wears the same things throughout the video and digi pack linking it out throughout. It was very important for me to link it though out and to fit in with my character that I was trying to portray.

Props and Costumes Used For My Video.

Props and Costumes Used For My Music Video
In this blog I'm going to be talking about the props that I used in my music video, why I used them and how they could be improved.

Equipment Used For My Video.

Equipment Used For My Video
For this blog I'm going to show a list of all the equipment used for the video.

Equipment Used

Nikon Camera: I used my photography Nikon camera, I used this as I know how is works and the quality is good. By using this camera I knew how to use it when it was sunny and how to change the camera when it was in a darker room as I know the camera very well. I had the camera on Manual so that I could change the light and effect the camera had on the image. Over all I believe this camera worked very well for the project although when I was shooting the beach part the light was coming from a different angle from what I was used to so there is a small purple line that is on the lens, this shows on the footage- I have how ever played it into my video.

This is a picture on my camera:

Trip Pod: I used a trip pod for some of my shots, so that they where nice and even. Although I couldn't use the tripod for all the shots as some of the shots where moving.
The tripod worked really well for my music video as it kept my shots still and steady that really improved the quality of my work.

Risk Assessment.

Risk Assessment
In this blog I am going to show the all the locations and the risks that could happen and how I am going to over come them.

Location: All locations
Hazard: Crash whilst driving
Avoidance: Ensure that the driver of the car has a full UK license and that they follow all precautionary driving methods to ensure that passengers in the car, other drivers and pedestrians are safe.

Location: Editing suite
Hazard: Tripping hazards of cables
Avoidance: Make sure that all wires are either placed neatly round the edge of the room or tape the wires down to prevent tripping.

Location: Camber Beach
Hazard: Horse Riding
Avoidance: To make sure that the rider is a qualified rider, is wearing the correct items e.g riding hat, jodhpurs, riding boots and gloves and body protector. To ensure that if the rider does fall off he has the protection to be safe as possible.

Location: Camber Beach
Hazard: Many
Avoidance: As the ground is sand it will have stones and shell in the sand I need to make sure that I have a first aid kit on site so that if my atress cuts her foot I can fix it. It will also be very cold so I need to make sure that she has warm cloths after to get into. I will need to make sure she or I don't trip over during the filming.

Location: Knole Park
Hazard: Tripping and falling out of tree
Avoidance: As I am taking my actress to Knole park I am going to have to make sure that she or I don't trip and fall over the branches on the floor as there are many. I also will have her and myself up a tree, therefore I need to make sure that we don't fall out, by not going to high and making sure that we are on a tree that will be able to carry our weight.

Location: Paddocks
Hazard: Tripping
Avoidance: As we are filing in a wet field the ground will be wet and tripping might happen, therefore I need to make sure that she doesn't trip over wile walking.

Location: Paddocks
Hazard: The Pony
Avoidance: AS my actress is going to be walking though the field with a pony I need to make sure that she is safe and that I am around all the time so I can get control of the pony if anything goes wrong.

Location: Brighton
Hazard: The stones
Avoidance:When walking on the beach I have to make sure that the stones do not cut her feet and if they do I have first aid kit close by.

Location: Editing suite
Hazard: Electrical malfunction
Avoidance: All our electrical equipment has been PAC tested to the electrical standard which made sure that all the equipment was safe to use.

Location: All locations
Hazard: Car safety
Avoidance: To make sure that the car we were driving was safe to use, we made sure that the car had a full MOT and service and all repairs had been made before setting off to our locations.

Location: All locations
Hazard: Camera safety
Avoidance: To make sure our expensive Cannon 7D was safe, we made sure that we used a top of the range Velbon Tripod, as this is a well known brand and is made to a high quality so we could be sure the camera would be safe and sturdy whilst connected to our tripod.

From reviewing all these hazards, this made me aware of all the possible things that could go wrong and made my project safe with no dangers occurring. From reviewing the hazards before filming in the location, it made the filming and editing, a safe experience for both the filmed and actress.

Locations I am Filming In.

Locations I am Filming In
In this blog I am going to talk about the locations that I have filmed in, what I am doing in the locations and why I have chosen them.

Location 1

Camber Sands:
Camber Sands is a very long stretching beach, I though this was the perfect place to have my actress run through the sand and stand. The day that I picked to do this was also perfect weather- I knew that it would be windy down at the beach so I would get the best effect with her hair, blowing around her face. I also took some picture here for my digi pack. I put her in a light coloured dress that gave a "lost riches" feel, although it was very cold it all added to the effect and feel of the video.

I also filmed my horse and beach scene at Camber Sands, I checked the timetable and saw when the tide was out and I also checked the times that horses are allowed down on the beach. After looking at this I saw that I needed to be down there at 8am, leaving the house at 6am to be able to leave before the tide came in at 10am.

This is the time table I used to check on the tides to see when I should go down to the beach.

Location 2

Brighton Beach:
My grandmother lives at Brighton beach, therefore I had easy access to the beach and had somewhere to let me actress changed into her outfit. I used this beach as the waves are very strong and the beach is stone. I though this would give a better effect for the video and give a rustic look. It also has a bank  and wooden bollards meaning I could use this as props in the video.

Location 3

Knole Park, Knole park is a very big park in Sevenoaks Kent. The park is known for its vast amount of space and many different trees. I though that this would be the perfect place to film parts when I planed her to be in the trees- at one with nature.

Location 4

Sevenoaks road bridge, I used to go to school in Sevenoaks and know the roads quite well. There is a small side road that goes under the major road. There is a bridge on this road- it is very rustic and has a cold feel and look about it. I though this would be the perfect place to film the parts of the song that she's talking about "not proud of my address" as its fits very well.

Location 5

Paddocks in Four Elms, I used the fields on the public foot path to have my actress walk through the fields. It worked well as the sun was bright and reflected well with the wet field. I was a hill field so I had my actress walk up I though this would give a great effect.

Location 6

My house, as I have stairs that go up the middle of my house I though it would look different and a contrast to the part under the bridge. I wanted to have her walking down the stairs and in different parts of mu house to make her look like she is dreaming from her real life.

Over all I used 6 locations, It was useful that I could drive to these places as it enabled me to get to different places easily and work with the weather well.

Choosing Main Character.

Choosing My Main Character
In this blog I'm going to talk about the casting of main and only character in my music video. I am going to talk about why I chose my main character and why I though that they would be the best for playing my main character.

Picking my main character:

Alice:

My first option was Alice, she's a 16 year old student. She is the same age of my target audience and the same age of Lorde who is the artist of the song. Alice does drama at school so will be able to act very well in video. As she is the same age as my target audience I feel that they will be able to relate to her. However she is very "Hollywood actress" looking for this video, her fair hair is too perfect and therefore doesn't fit into the song that I have picked. I feel that the person that I chose for my video needs to be more edgy.

Bebe:

My second option was Bebe, Bebe is a 17 year old student. She does A level drama and is a very strong actor- this would be very helpful to me video as I need my actress to be professional and work well under pressure. She is also very close to the age of my target audience and so will relate well to them. She is very edgy and has the right look for my video.

Conclusion:
For my final character I have chosen Bebe, I have chosen her as I feel she has the right image for the part. She has the kind of face that will show the emotions that I feel are very important for the video. I want her face to tell a story and think she will do this well, her body language also works well for the video and her hair is very "wild" so will give the right effect for the video.
