Target Audience
In this blog I’m going
to defined and explain what a target audience is and the importance it has to
the final product, I’m also going to identify my target audience for my music
video- Royals By Lorde.
Target audience can be
defined by “ the audience we think we are making the product for” media
producers decide their target audience before even starting to plan there media
production, the reason for this is that you can’t plan without knowing who is
going to be watching, for example- if you have a target audience of teenage
boys, to make your production work with your target audience enjoying it you
would know that using fast cars and girls with minimal clothing would work well
with that target audience where as it wouldn’t work well a middle age target
audience, then you wouldn’t sell as many copies therefore it wouldn’t be
successful.
All these different
target audiences will mediate the way a text is constructed because it will be
shaped differently structured differently and have different content depending
on the target audience. By identifying the target audience, you make it far
easier to say why a text has been contrasted this way, rather than simply
writing about how the text has been constructed.
My target audience is
teenage girls between the ages of 15-19 the reason for this is because Lorde
who sings the song is 17 herself so her songs are going to appeal to people
around her age. My actress in my video is also 18, this means that they will
also relate to her. The song is about going to “really seedy parties”-Lorde,
therefore they don’t have the money to do anything else, because of this the
song will also relate to the lower/ middle class, as they will be able to see
where she is coming from in the song, I tried to aim my video in this direction
as well, showing that you can live in a dark and sad place, but in your dreams
you can run away and live the “good life”, this is the story line I tried to
represent in my music video so it would relate to my target audience.
