Questionnaire Results.

Questionnaire Results

These are the results from my questionnaire, I gave my questionnaire to 20 people, all ranging ages (using my target audience age) and genders. I will be using this to get an idea of what people what to see in my music video and what they think of the song I have chosen.

1. How old are you?

    14-1
    15-1
    16-2
    17-4
    18-4
    19-3
    20-5

As most of my friends are between the ages of 17-20 it was earlier to find people that age to complete my questionnaire. Although I also found some younger people to do the questionnaire so my video can appeal to all my target audience.

2. What is your gender?

     Male-14

     Female-6

The reason for these results is that I have more Male friends rather then female friends, my target audience is a mix between male and female so the fact that I have results from both genders is very important.

3.  How realistic do you like your music videos?

60% Of my results said that they would rather have a realistic music video, the reasons that they gave was if if the video is realistic it makes you seem closer to the artist and can make you relate to the song more.

40% Of my results said they prefer music videos to be done in a studio and have effects instead of being in real places and real life situations.

4. Do you prefer abstract videos or ones that go with the with the lyrics?

30% of the people I sent the questionnaire to said they prefer abstract videos. I believe this is the mostly because of the people I gave my questionnaire too where people like me, as I like videos that go with the lyrics.

70% of the people in my questionnaire said they prefer music videos that go with the lyrics, the reason for this is that they like it when you can follow the story line of the music video, this only works when the song goes with the music video.

5.  What aspects of a music video make it more interesting for you to watch?

The main responses where these;

-having different places in the video.
-seeing the feeling of the artist
-having different people in the video
-having different ideas and special effects

6.  What’s your preferred genre of music?

6- Rock
5-Indie
2-Rap
7-Pop

The winning genre is Pop, this doesn't surprise me as pop is the most popular genre of music- I'm please this is the result as my genre in Pop.

7.  Do you prefer a music video that looks like its been made in a studio (shinny) or made in really life
     situations?

60% Of the people that took my questionnaire said they like videos that are made in real life situation although it depends on the song.

40% said they prefer videos that are done in a studio

For my video Im listening to my questionnaire, as my song works well with real life places over studio.

8. Do you feel the music video changes your view on the artist/ song?

80% YES

20% NO

There is a strong view that what the artist looks like in the video and what she/he is using and doing changes and effects the way the people think of the video. I will have to take this into consideration when making my music video.

Beach     30%                Town      20%              Countryside      40%             Other: Woods
                                                                                                                                    Abandoned
                                                                                                                                            buildings.

10. What do you feel when listening to Lordes Song Royals?

The over all response that I got for the feel for the song is that its flow, its a "free" song that takes your mind other places.

Genres Of Music Video's.

Different Types Of Genres

In this blog I am going explore and investigate the different genres of music. Explaining their  differences, and what my chosen genre for my music video is going to be and why I chose to explore this genre.

Genres and What They Are:

Pop: Pop music is a type of music that primarily is popular with many people. Its usually played on electronic instruments, it mostly consists of short songs with a strong beat and simple tunes that are easy to remember.

Rock: Rock music is developed from rock 'n' roll, it uses a heavy regular beat, electric guitars, singing and a tune that is easy to remember- and easy to dance and sing along to.

Indy: Indie music isn't a definite style of music, but most indie bands are influenced by each other causing a similar sound. the sound is melodic, the instruments are simple but well textured. it usually includes a simple but original guitar riff, another guitar riff layered to complement it, bass doing the same, simple drum beat (but fitting the song well) either a keyboard or violin or something to bring out the underlying melody, and soft vocals that are harmonised. Indie music is soft and it flows, its not harsh or "jumpy" it flows with each other very well.

Alternative Rock: Alternative rock emerged in the late 80's and early 90's. Alternative rock came from rock- but with a added twist of having the "do it yourself" bands. Alternative rock is conformist attitude; that's why its "alternative".

Punk: Punk music came from rock music, its a loud, fast music, aggressive type of music- more so than rock music.

Indie Pop: Indie pop is lighter and more light hearted then pure indie, the indie pop is mixing the light hearted popular pop music with the soft farm sad music that is indie.

Soul: Soul music is music that incorporates elements of rhythm, blues and gospel music. The vocals are very deep and "soulful" they are very good and quality singing, to be a soul artist is very hard as its singing from the deepest part of your lungs.

R & B: Rhyme and blues, a mixture of them both. They are quite soulful and can also included soft rap.

Rap: Rap is powerful, fast and point proving.

There are many different genres of music, but these are the genres that are most popular. For my video the genre that I have chosen is Indie Pop, the artist that I have chosen prefers Pop music and her song has been very popular in 2013 and still in the charts 2014. Although this song isn't like the "perfect" songs that are also in the charts making the song indie as well, therefore my song is Indie Pop.
