Inspiration For My Music Video.

Inspiration for my Music video

In this blog I'm going to show and talk about the music videos that inspired me in the making of my music video.

Inspiration

The first video what inspired me was a video also by Lorde, the song is "Tennis Court". The reason why this song inspired me was because its so simple yet the light used works well for this song. I find this very effective even though its the most simple video.
For my video I would like to use the light effect for a small part of my video.

This is Tennis Court By Lorde:

Another video that Inspired me was "The A Team" by Ed Sheeran, the reason why this video inspired me is because its simple but it shows her life. Its also in black and white which I might use for some parts of my music video.

The A Team by Ed Sheeran:

Give me love By Ed Sheeran, was another inspiration for my music video. The reason for this is that its got a edit of magical and dream which is the "theme" that I wanted for my music video. I wish that my music video doesn't seem real therefore this inspired me with that idea.

Give me love by Ed Sheeran:

Wings by Birdy also inspired me for my music video, this video is very fairly and dream like using costume to make the video different.

Wings by Birdy:

Diamonds by Rihanna also inspired me, although the type of song is very different from my chosen song the music video is very quick edits that have lots of different things going on as well as the horse, as i have access to horse I'm going to include this into my video.

Diamonds by Rihanna:

Lorde's Target Audience.

Lorde's Target Audience
In this blog I'm going to talk about the target audience for Lorde, and why this benefits me and my music video and how it effects her music videos.

Lorde's Target Audience

Lordes audience mostly consists of young teen through to young adults. I think this age group finds her music appealing and popular because of its party essence, as well as its messages. Lorde is part of that age group therefore she understands how people feel and what they want to hear, it allows her to relate to her audience and fans, making her like them on the same level.
Th best performers are the performers that can see there audience and know what they want to hear and they correspond with their viewers and listeners.

About My Song Choice- Royals.

About My Song Choice-Royals
In this blog I'm going to talk about my song chose, why I chose it and information about the songs.

Royals
The song I have chosen is is "Royals"  By young singer/ songwriter Lorde.
The song is from the album Pure Heroine.
The song was released 19th March 2013.
Format of buying the song: Digital download, CD single.
The song was recorded in late 2012.
The genre of the song is Pop and Art Pop.
The length of the song is 3:10mins.
The label of the song is Republic.
The writers of the song are Ella Yelich O'Connor (Lorde) and Joel Little.
The producer of the song is Joel Little.

The song took Lorde herself half a hour to draft and a further one hour to be refined by Joel Little who also help write the song.
The message behind the song is just to include everyone, so on one feels included. I feel this is done really well as she is the age of the people listening and therefore has an idea of what they are going though.
I feel her out spoken ways makes people what to listen to her music as they all have a very important message, and they are not the normal "pop" music that is being listened too now- it different and people enjoy and like different.

This is a a short video of Lorde talking about her song Royals:

Overall I believe that picking this song for my music video will work well as its about so many different things that relate to a wide audiences.

Copyright Letter.

Copyright Letter

Before the making of my music I have to send off a Copyright letter. This letter is asking to use the artists song in my music video. The song that I have chosen is Lorde's "Royals". To send the letter off I looked into the company's that produced the song and sent them a letter asking to use the song.
The company's that have label of the song Royals is Republic and the Producer is Joel Little.
Here is a copy of my letter:

To Whom It May Consern,

I'm a A2 Media Studies student, currently studying at Sackville School. For our A2 project we have been given the task of creating a music video. For my music video I have chosen the song Royals by Lorde.

I understand that you are the owner of the copyright in the musical composition of the song "Royals" therefore I would like to ask your permission to use the entire song as the basis of my music video for my A2 production.

As I am a student and the distribution of the video (using the song) will only be between fellow students and the administration of my school, I am hoping that you will allow myself to use the song with no charge.

Thank you very much for your time it is greatly appreciated. Could possibly reply with a email or signature confirming that you agree to permit this use of the song without payment? Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or quires concerning this license.
Also could you let me know as soon as possible if the song can not be use so I have the time to change the artist of the song in the video production?

About the Artist- Lorde.

About the Artist- Lorde
In this blog I'm going to show who the artist to my song is, information about her and her relationship with the song.

Lorde

Ella Yelich-O'Connor, known to her fans by her show name Lorde, is 17 years old and from New Zealand. Ella has been writing songs from the age of 13 and that was the age that she got signed to a agent which was "Universal". As her parents are artists themselves its always been important to her that her work is very pure. I believe the reason for her success is the difference in her songs as they tell the truth and are about real things that people go though. Her song Royals was her fist song out in the public to "explode", she made her dambue with this song in the New Zealands top 40, and later on New Zealand local radio in 2013.
The name Lorde was adopted as she was obsessed with the royal family, it started off being Lord but she felt it was too manly so added a "e" to make it more womanly.
Since her rise to fame she has been nominated for many awards, in October 2013 she won the 2013 Silver Scroll Award, for the 56th Grammy Awards Lorde got nominated four times and won two awards which where Song Of The Year and Best Pop Solo Performance and in Febuary 2014 she was chosen International Female Solo Artists at the BRIT awards.
I believe the reason people have related to this young star so well is the fact that she's young, her fan bases it her age so she knows what to do and what not to do- although some of the older stars try and understand they can't really relate whereas she can.
He other hit songs for 2013/14 are Tennis Court and Team- both these songs are from the first album Pure Heroine which was released 13th December 2013, by Universal Music Group.

Choosing My Song.

Choosing My Song
In this blog I'm going to write about the process I went through to pick the write song for my A2 music video task, I'm going to explain why I chose this song and why I believe its the right song for me to do. Both songs that I have looked at are Pop therefore more mainstream and the type of music that I like therefore have a high understanding of this genre.

Everything Has Changed- By Ed Sheeran & Taylor Swift

When I first got given the project of music video I though that Everything has changed by Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift was the best song chose for me, I knew the song very well, I had ideas to make it work and the story line of the song meant that I could explore with different ideas very well. As it is a love song it also meant that I could use more that one main character meaning I could use a male and female that I felt would work well, I cast two of my friends to be the main characters and though that they could have a on screen relationship and show the journey of them falling in love.
As I started to plan more it became clear to me that I wasn't going to be able to achieve all the things I wanted to do, as the video that goes with the song is a shinny Hollywood production it meant that I couldn't on any level achieve the same things, also the way the song went would mean that I would have to be a shinny Hollywood production company with a lot of funds- which I didn't have. Therefore I left this song to try and find one that would be better for someone with limited funds and resources.

Royals- By Lorde

After debating many different songs I decided to go for Royals By Lorde. I chose this song as its new out in 2013 so its got a modern twist that would let me experiment and make up new ideas for the music video. The song itself is very diverse meaning that I could go in any direction with my music video which gave me confidence to come up with new and different ideas. The song is also aimed and sung by a teenager, Lorde Herself is 17 (the same age as me) this means that I could use this as a link between the music and video. I have felt this song has worked well for my music video letting me experiment with my music video.

Lip Syncing.

Lip Syncing
In this blog I'm going to be writing about the importance of lip syncing, how it effects and changes music videos and how to achieve this in your music video.
I will also give a definition of that lip syncing is.

Lip- Syncing in music is: "moving the lips in synchronisation with a (pre-) recorded speech or song"

In order to give a music video a "live" feel the video needs to be well lip-synced, if this is not the case the whole video will be affected. Its very important to have the lip syncing perfect so it shows the audience that the performance is the person who is lip syncing and makes the video look more believable, it also shows that you have put the effort into the music video therefore making the viewer like the video more.

Lip syncing is achieved by having the performer mouth (or even sing) the exact words to the song and to the right beet, rhythm and speed that the song is sung. Once this has been achieved you can then layer the song on top lining it up to each part of the song.

In my music video it was key that my lip syncing was perfect, to do this I firstly had my actor sit in the same place- I put the camera on the tripod and let her sing the whole song, once I had done this it meant that I had words for the whole song. I then wrote down what she was going to be doing through each of the sections of the song, by doing this I knew the exact moments that this is taken place. When it came to her singing the words I needed it to be inexact time with the music so I played the song in the background so she knew when to breath and when to sing- so that it was perfectly in time. To make sure that it was perfect I shot each take 3 times, although this was a long process it meant that I could be sure that the timings matched up with the song so that the lip syncing could be at its best.

I believe the difference between a good and bad video is the lip syncing, although in some videos the story line of the video doesn't show the artist singing I believe that the video needs to be in sync with the song. If however the music video does show the artist sing the lip syncing should be perfect to show a professional and clear cut music video.

Codes And Conventions Of Music Videos.

Codes and Conventions Of Music Videos
In this blog I'm going to explain and show the codes and conventions of music videos and how it changes through out different genres.

Codes and Conventions

Camera:
Music videos includes many different shot types such as long, medium, close ups and extra close ups. By doing this it emphasis the artist, location and the emotions that the artist is feeling. Close up shots are mainly used to for the star to get identity.

Mise-en-scene:
The mise-en-scene needs to be accurate as it needs to match the style/ genre of the music, and it is very good at showing the style of the music video. The most important things are props, makeup, location and costume.

Editing:
Editing is the key stage to any music video. Lip syncing is one of the most important things of editing a music video. This must be in perfect sync to look professional. The video is edited depending on the speed of the music and also the genre of music.

Three Types Of Music Video's.

Three Types Of Music Videos
In this blog I'm going to explain the three different types of music video, to show this I have created a Prezi.

The three types of music videos are:

Performance Based

Narrative Based

Concept Based

Brand Identity.

Brand Identity
In this blog I am going to show how I got my brand Identity and what it is. I'm also going to show how I'm getting my brand identity out in the world of social media.

Name
The name of my records company is Dream Records, I have picked this as it links well to my video ideas, my video is based around the video being a dream therefore I felt that if I link my record company with my video it would make more sense for the audience.

About My Record Company
My record company is a small independent record company that works with upcoming singer/ song writers. They work mainly with younger artist that want to be mainstream pop artist.

My Logo
To get my logo I used photoshop. I have a box of small beads that have letters on, I lined these up to make the word dream, I then took a picture of this and put it on photoshop. Using word I wrote the word Records and also added this onto the photoshop page. I then put them together to make the final project. I used the layering and cropping tools to get the final product.

This is my Dream Records Logo:

Twitter
I created a twitter page for my records company, by doing this I can tweet about my progress to let people know how the filming and editing is going. I can also follow different record companies to get inspiration and ideas.
This is my twitter page:

FaceBook
I have also created a Facebook page, I have used this so that I can get more publicity for my page, by doing this I can let people know what happening with editing a filming.
This is my Facebook page.

How Music Video's Have Changed.

How Music Video's Have Changed

In this blog i'm going to explain and show how music videos have changed over the years, showing the first music videos compared to the most resent.

The first music video was made was a music video by Queen on there song Bohemian Rhapsody which was made in 1975. The beginning of the video is very simple, they are standing with a light behind them, they look almost like silhouettes, you can't see them singing although there heads are slightly moving so you know that they are. When this video was produced it would have been hard to find the technology to lip syncing so they would have to be singing in real life. The light then (in time with the music) fades from the back of them to the front of them showing there faces, the rest of the shot is very dark so you can just see the yellow light on her faces. Then using a fading and layering tool the lead singers face over laps all the others faces. The shot then changes completely going to them playing in the band, this is a lot brighter as they are wearing white cloths and the light is bright.
Throughout the video it switches from these two sense, for a music video in that time they used advanced technology and this has showed however nowadays everything has changed (music video wise) and they are a lot more about tell a story of the song then the performance its self.

This is the the music video by Queen.

The modern music video I have chosen is beyonće- XO, I have chosen this video as it really shows the difference between the two videos, the video by Queen is very simple, whereas this video by Beyonće shows many different camera techniques and also shows a story line, the camera travels with her and the editing is quick and makes it all seem like a dream and like you are with her.

This is Beyonće XO video.

Over the year music videos have changed beyond recognition, the main reason for this is that the ideas that people have now can be done, the soft wear, editing and cameras are now available to use and therefore any idea that you have for a music video can be achieved.

Exploiting Different Technologies.

Exploiting Different Technologies

In this blog i'm going to talk about the way in which I have used, discovered and explored different technologies and things that are available on the internet.

Prezi

Prezi is the new "PowerPoint" it lets you present and give information about any chosen topic, you can pick the colour, size and font used in your Prezi to suit your style. You are given different templates where you can then pick and chose different effects. Prezi is free, but you can also enter for a membership. I have personally used Prezi in my project as I find it a fun and different way to show my ideas. By using YouTube I have learnt how to embed my Prezi's into my blog.

Survay Monkey

Survay Monkey is what it suggests, its a website that helps you make surveys, it then posts it on Facebook for people to then answer your questionnaire. I started to use this form of technologies for my project but as I wanted my questionnaire done quickly and couldn't grantee that people would answer all the questions I decided against the idea, instead I printed my questionnaire out and gave it to people.

Pinterest

Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interest and hobbies. Each users can look over other pins and images only picking the ones they like as there own "pins"Pinterest is managed by Cold Brew Labs and funded by a small group of entrepreneurs and investors. I am using Pinterest as my mood board, by using this it keeps all the photos in one place of the things and places I want to have within my video, another good thing about Pinterest is that I have unlimited access to all the photos and ideas that I could want therefore its not limiting my research in any way. I can also always add to my collection so my collection doesn't stop growing.

Pinterest's saying is "Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organising things you love"

FaceBook

Facebook is the biggest social networking site in the world, it has over 1.11 billion users (march 2013). You can find people all over the world by using Facebook, millions of companies advertise using Facebook and many have started up by using the site. As well as companies getting founded over facebook, people do as well many people have be found over Facebook for their talents. Facebook allows you to show other people your interest and hobbies by sharing photos and status with your friends. I have use Facebook for my A2 work as I have created a group for my brand identity "Dream Records" I have shared this group among friends posting information about my blog, my filming and the locations that I am visiting to film.

Twitter

Twitter was founded in 2008, its one of the biggest social media platforms, it is on the same level as Facebook. Celebrities "tweet" about what they are doing to connect with fans, and people tweet on average eight times a day. 645,750,000 is the number of users that twitter has and its growing by 134,00 every day. Its the newest part of the social media and therefore the things people most want at this time.
For my project I have used twitter by making my own twitter page for "Dream Records". I tweet about my filming and whats going on in the filming a location setting of my music video, I also follow on twitter many different music producers so that I can see how they communicate with there fans

YouTube

Youtube has been around for many year and is the source of most of my research. For my project I have used YouTube to look at different music videos, researched how to do things on my blog and editing on my computer and how to use my camera effectively for my video.
