Background Of Music Videos.

Background Of Music Video

In this blog I am going to show my research into music videos, and show the background and how music videos have change music. I am going to show why music videos are important to the consumer and the artist.

What is a Music Video

Fundamentally a music video is the promotion strategy for the song, the artist communicates with the audience through there video, it lets the audience see what the artist is feeling when they where writing the song, they also give the consumer a insight into the deeper meaning to the song. Dependent on the song is how much the video really means.
For example-this video by Selena Gomez & The Scene "Love You Like A Love Song"
Is just a promotion for the song, although its interesting to watch as has lots of different effects, it doesn't have a story line, therefore this isn't a deep video in which the artist (Selena Gomez) wanted us (The Consumer) to see why she wrote the song.

Another Example is this video by Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris "We Found Love"
This video is very intense, at the beginning there is a British girl talking-shes taking slowly and with pain in there voice, this is very deep and emotional. It is clear that this video is of Rihanna's own experience of being in a abusive relationship- the actor that she has used in the video is resembling her Ex Boyfriend Chris Brown. In the beginning of the video the girl talking says "and when its over you wish you could have all that bad stuff back just so you can have the good". There is a lot of acting in this video which makes it deep and shows you the emotions.

How Important Music videos Are

Music videos are the sectors of the music industry that brings together visual and sounds.

Music videos have grown in popularity and are a major part of the music industry today. One of the first companies to take advantages of music videos was MTV. It started up in 1981 broadcasting in America. The first music video aired on MTV was "Video Killed The Radio Star" By Buggles. This then carried out to play such a huge part in the Music industry today.
With out the music videos taking hold the music industry would be very different, we (the consumers) wait for the date of the music video more so than the song itself. Beyonce has just released a visual album, this would have been unthinkable a few years ago but now its the new thing that everyone is fascinated by.
This is a small look at the visual album by Beyonce:

Music videos are extremely important to the music industry, not only is it promotional strategy for the artist and there music but it is also a second selling point for the artist- in resent times the music industry has changed therefore the music videos need to keep up and change- the weirder the better, everything has to shock the consumer because that gets the most publicity.
The importance of music videos started in the 1965, this was 10 years after they stared in 1955. They took over they firstly got known through MTV (the home of music) as MTV became more popular more singers started to sell there music through the music videos, the better the music video the more popular the song becomes and more sales they get.

I will hopefully improve my work so its better this year than last, and used the mistakes I made last year to make this project better. I have lots of different ideas for this project that I am going to show the journey of making and researching to get my final project, I am also going to show my experimental work.
So far I've got some research done and have some different ideas, I have also tried to use some different effects on short videos that I've done.
